Tango is a 4-month old black-and-white feral kitten living at a Halfway Home Pet Rescue foster home. He was rescued at the Tri-City Landfill with his sister, Topaz, who was very ill and did not survive. Tango is a tough little guy always ready to tackle the world with the lessons he learned surviving in a town dump. It will take time and several volunteers to teach him that humans can be trusted, but he is making slow but steady progress in his foster situation. Elements to increase trust include isolated cage space, regular feeding times, slow movements and soft talk. Tango can now smell his rescuer's hands without needing to bite or scratch, though he isn’t ready to be touched. Rescuing a feral kitten, taming and sterilizing it is a rewarding task that turns a terrified and nasty cat into a couch potato, and HHPR is optimistic that Tango will eventually be a lap cat.
