Fort Fairfield fire chief resigns amid creation of new EMS department

FORT FAIRFIELD, Maine — Fort Fairfield fire chief, Vince Baldwin, has resigned, town manager Andrea Powers confirmed Wednesday.

Although the town council discussed personnel matters during an executive session on June 17, after their regular public meeting, Powers said that Baldwin’s resignation occurred before then.

Powers did not provide a reason for Baldwin’s decision, but said that the fire department is “moving forward” in the creation of the new EMS component of its service.

“We had our final interviews today for EMTs,” Powers said.

Baldwin previously served as deputy chief for the Presque Isle Fire Department. He had resigned from that position in October in order to serve as Fort Fairfield’s full-time fire chief.

In related business, the Fort Fairfield town council approved a lease-to-purchase package for the two Ford E450 ambulances that have recently arrived for the EMS.

During past council meetings, members had approved the two ambulances but not the lease agreement. The lease will allow the town to make annual payments for five years with the goal of eventually owning the ambulances.
