CARIBOU, Maine — The Caribou City Council appointed election officials and set times for the Nov. 3 election during a special meeting held Oct. 26.
Council unanimously voted to appoint City Clerk Danielle Brissette as the election warden, and Deputy City Clerk Susan Skidgell and Assistant City Clerk Cherie Garman as deputy election wardens.
Councilors also approved polling hours of 8 a.m.-8 p.m. at the Caribou Wellness and Recreation Center for the election.
Caribou Mayor Mark Goughan said the special meeting was called as it would be unfair for the council to make these authorizations during the next regular meeting on Nov. 2 — a day before the election.
Brissette said that, as of Oct. 26, the city has had 1,935 requests for absentee ballots and more than 1,600 ballot submissions.
She said the city office will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Oct. 31, and that residents can also vote during this time.
“I went in and voted today and there was quite a line,” said Goughan. “If you’re in the public and you’re going to vote, there will be a little wait, but it’s no more than 20 minutes. The staff did a good job.”
