CARIBOU, Maine — The city of Caribou began enforcing its parking ban on Nov. 1, according to Caribou Police Chief Michael Gahagan. The ban will be in effect until May 1 of next year.
Gahagan cited City Ordinance Chapter 12, Section 407, which says that “parking is prohibited on any street in Caribou between the hours of 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. from November 1 to May 1.”
Parking will be allowed in the Hatch Drive parking lot spaces along Hatch Drive as well as in the lot along the nearby retaining wall. Gahagan said that overnight parking is not allowed in any other public parking areas.
The parking ban prevents snow from building up by allowing the public works crew to plow city streets during the winter.
“Failure to abide by this ordinance will result in fines being issued and/or your vehicle being towed at your expense,” the chief said.
Anyone with questions about the ordinance can call the Caribou Police Department at 493-3301.
