100 Years Ago – April 14, 1921

New partnership Jere O’Callaghan who was employed before the war by H.L. Powers in his Kennels, returned from Boston Tuesday and has entered into a partnership with Mr. Powers in the dog business.

New lawyer — A.S. Crawford Jr., who has been practicing law in Fort Kent for a number of years recently moved his practice to Houlton.

75 Years Ago – April 10, 1946

Choose director of recreation — The Houlton Recreation Committee this week announced the appointment of Robert P. Hunter, 36. Mr. Hunter will take on his new duties here May 1st.

John McKay joins Gentle Company — Joseph H. McKay, otherwise known as Joe, has entered the employ of  the Geo S Gentle Company, Aroostook County’s oldest insurance company. He is a Graduate of Houlton High School.

50 Years Ago – April 14, 1971

Low bidder — Putnam Brothers Company was awarded the contract to provide the town with gasoline this year.

New members The Town Council appointed the following members to three terms on the Recreation Advisory Board; Woodrow Dunphy, Gerald York and Janice Harrigan.

25 Years Ago – April 10, 1996

Poster contest winner Grace Nelson, a Houlton High School student, won 1st place for her “Harmony with the Land” poster contest in the SASWCD Conservation Poster Contest. Heidi Nelson, Americorps member, presented the award.

Joins new bank David L. Dorsey, President and Chief Officer is pleased to announce that Al Butler has joined First Citizens Bank as a commercial banking officer. Butler will be located in the bank’s newly opened branch office in Houlton. He brings 15 years or more experience to the job. Dorsey is a native of Houlton and a graduate of Houlton High School.
