LIMESTONE, Maine — The quick response of onlookers likely abated a tragedy at the Limestone Fourth of July festivities when a motorcycle carrying a driver and a passenger crashed during the rolling car show on Main Street.
The crash was thought to be the result of a medical problem, Limestone Police Chief Stacey Mahan said.
The car show, which took place just before the Limestone parade on Sunday, was traveling slowly when the driver laid the motorcycle down, throwing both riders from the vehicle.
Witnesses from the crowd initiated CPR immediately, which Mahan said likely saved the life of the person who was in medical distress. Both people involved were treated at Cary Medical Center and are in stable condition, Mahan said.
Limestone Fire Department and Caribou and Fort Fairfield ambulance departments responded. Aside from the medical problem that caused the crash, Mahan said both people had only minor injuries from the slow-speed crash.
The crash delayed the start of the parade by 30 minutes.
