The Town of Mapleton comes alive next week with the annual Mapleton Daze celebration. Here is partial schedule of activities.
Tuesday
The first event occurs on June 21 and will be a traditional baked bean and hot dog supper at the Haystack Historical Society. This will be a fundraiser for the historical society. The cost will be $10 per meal, which will include baked beans, two red hot dogs, potato salad, dessert and drink.
Eat in or take home, starting at 4:30 p.m., until food is gone.
Wednesday
On June 22, the Dialed Action Sport FMX Bike Stunt Show is slated at Mapleton Elementary School at 6:30 p.m. Rain date will Thursday at the same time and location.
Thursday
Game Night will be held on June 23 at the Mapleton Lions Hall. Upstairs will be the exciting Bingo game with many prizes. There is no admission. Downstairs all of the area’s card sharks will gather for the annual Woodie Waddell Cribbage Tournament, which will start at 6 p.m. All cribbage players are invited.
Should the Bike Show on Wednesday be rescheduled to Thursday night, the game night will be rescheduled to Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m.
Friday
Friday evening, June 24, will be a night of good food, music and fireworks. Starting at 4:30 p.m. the Mapleton Lions club will serve barbecue chicken dinners at the school parking lot. The Mapleton Baptist Church will sponsor a cornhole tournament at 6 p.m. Prizes will be $50 for first place, $30 for second and $10 for third. Registration starts at 4:30 p.m. The tournament will be limited to the first 20 people registering.
Starting at 6:30, local band Star Syndicate will entertain families, friends and visitors. Starting at dusk (approximately 9 p.m.) a fireworks show will occur.
Saturday
Saturday starts with a 7 a.m. breakfast on Haystack Mountain. Adam Murchison will bring participants to the top of the mountain.
Free breakfast sandwiches with drinks will be provided starting at 7:30 a.m. next to the post office by the area churches. The Haystack Historical Society museum opens at 10 a.m. with homemade pie and ice cream. This is a fundraiser for the museum. Come in and see the family quilts on display.
The children’s bike parade will lead the Mapleton Daze parade down Main Street in Mapleton at 10 a.m. At 11 a.m., activities start at the Mapleton Elementary School, including food vendors, face painting, touch-a-truck, bouncy houses, demonstrations, games, petting zoo, horse rides and a bike giveaway raffle. The Car Show will open at 11 a.m.
Sunday
Starting at The Chapman Ridge Runners Snowmobile and ATV Club will sponsor the annual Steven L. Kennedy Jr. Memorial Ride. Riders will gather at the Mapleton Gazebo and start riding at 12:30 p.m. Lunch will be provided along the trail.
The King’s Messengers Puppet Show will start at 6 p.m. at the Mapleton Lions Hall. This is a show for all members of the family. There will be an intermission with refreshments served. There will be no admission charge for this event.
