To the editor:
I constantly hear about President Biden’s great accomplishments. What I don’t hear is: what are they? All I’m asking here is for someone to answer that simple question.
I know that there will be no takers, so I looked for the answers on my computer. Here’s some of what I came up with.
Claim: More people are working now than at any time in American history: Reality: true, but almost every prior president can make the same claim. It stands to reason that as the population increases the job market grows.
Student debt relief: Forgiving the debt from some people that borrowed money to go to college and passing the debt on to the taxpayers. I find it hard to call that an accomplishment.
Claim: Nearly 11 million jobs created: Reality: most of those jobs were not created, but jobs that just opened back up after the pandemic eased.
Claim: Protected marriage for gays and interracial couples. Reality: on July 26, 2015, the Supreme Court ruled same-sex marriages cannot be banned in the United States (Obergefell vs Haden). In 1967, interracial marriage was made legal by the Supreme Court (Loving vs. Virginia). Anything that passed after those dates is simply window dressing.
Claim: Led the world in release of strategic reserves. Reality: Biden’s attack on fossil fuels disrupted its balance. His policies, in part, helped create an Imbalance in crude production and distribution. His solution to the problem was to blame the oil crisis on Russia’s invasion of Kuwait and then sell our oil reserves on the world market to try and lower fuel costs worldwide. I may be wrong, but I thought our oil reserves were to be used by us in case of emergencies in our country and not to be shared with the world.
Claim: Signed the chip act into law on Aug. 9,2022. Reality: true, but it was proposed in 2020 during the Trump administration.
Here’s my favorite: Lowered cost of families everyday expenses. Reality: higher gas prices, higher grocery prices, higher fuel oil prices — the list goes on and on but I’m out of allotted words.
