High School Graduates Record Class of 106 With Two Absent In Army But Eligible By Study – There would have been 106 in the class at Houlton High School which holds its graduating exercises tomorrow at the Houlton Theatre. But, after a week of celebrating the year’s close, the end of intermediate schooling for the seniors, with exercises and services and awarding of prizes, the class tomorrow will number 104 with two members, Fay Fong Yee and Chester Phillip McLean, still in the armed forces.
Band Won All A’s At Hampton Beach – N.E. Festival Scoring Places Houlton Ahead. The Houlton High School Band came through with honors at Hampton Beach, N. H., where, along with 7,000 other youngsters in scores of musical organizations from all New England, they competed recently for audition scores. The Houlton report, received yesterday by Leonard L. Maher, director, shows all “A’s”. Additionally, the HOulton band was taken out of the Class C rating, for schools of about 400 students, and now is in Class B, or the rating of schools of about 1,000 enrollment.

Tracy Is Named To Rec Board – James C. Tracy was appointed by the Town Council Monday night to serve on the Advisory Board to the Parks and Recreation Department. Mr. Tracy, owner of the Aroostook Print Shop, will replace Jay Brewer on the board. Mr. Brewer had resigned because he was moving from Houlton to Monticello.
Fowler Named Game Warden In Allagash Area – John H. Fowler, 23, of Houlton has joined the Warden Service of the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Game. He has been assigned to the Allagash district. Fowler is a graduate of Houlton High School and served two years with the US Coast Guard.

Four Houlton youths win two events apiece at Hershey Meet – Several young athletes have qualified for the Hershey Track and Field State Championships, set for July 14 in Brewer at the Pendleton Street track. One hundred and eighty nine Aroostook County youths from nine communities congregated at the Caribou High School track last Wednesday for the district meet, with the top two finishers in each age division advancing to the state meet. Placing first in two individual events apiece were Mallory McPartland, Jordan Gard, Danielle Sewell and Collin York, all of Houlton; JOsh Carter and Jessica Price, both from Presque Isle; Brock Kilcollins of Fort Fairfield and Mika Thorpe of Caribou.
Cornerstone placed at new amphitheater – A group of hearty souls ventured into the stormy weather last Saturday for the cornerstone laying of the Houlton Amphitheater by the Grand Lodge of Freemason for the State of Maine. In spite of the rainy weather, the Masons began their processional which was composed of members from Masonic Lodges from all over the state. The group proceeded from the Monument Lodge in Market Square under the leadership of Grand Marshall Fredrick Campbell of Sumner.
