Shaw celebrates 40 years in the St. John Valley — John Richard Shaw Real Estate LLC is celebrating 40 years in business, with longtime friendships and a $5.6 million sale among his biggest accomplishments. The real estate agency, established in June 1973, opened an office in Madawaska in October 1974, according to Shaw. “I opened it in Madawaska because my wife was from Madawaska, and no one else was selling real estate in Madawaska at that time,” Shaw said.  Real estate agent Avril Marin, a former teacher, began working for Shaw in February 1974 and was the only employee when the office opened, he said. Marin later became a broker.
