99 Years Ago – March 26, 1925

Mrs. Dunham and her Sunday School class outing — Mrs. Dunham and her Sunday School class went on a straw ride to Mars Hill Saturday night. They took in the pictures, also the game between the Blizzards of Easton and the Town Team of Mars Hill. The game came out 29-17 in favor of Easton. Some said it was the best game they had played that year. The class had a very enjoyable time and gave their teacher many hearty thanks.

50 Years Ago – March 27, 1974

Barresi elected SAD 1 director — In a prolonged and active session March 19, an estimated 40 townspeople here elected town officials and approved the majority of articles relating to the 1974 budget on the 29-article town warrant. With Thomas Johnson acting as moderator, the following town officials were elected: Delance Lovley and Murray E. Kenney re-elected selectmen for three-year terms; Ivan Sawyer re-elected assessor for a three-year term and James Barresi elected to the School Administrative District 1 board of directors. The town voted to make taxes due and payable as soon as tax bills are received and increased discounts on taxes received before July 10 to three percent and interest on late taxes to eight percent. 

All-Stars selected — These performers were among players selected from the Northeast College Conference and Maine Small Colleges for the Maine smaller College’s Northern Division All-Star team. Coaches selected the players and they were, Charles P. (Charlie) Ryan, Thomas College, Waterville;  Charlie Underwood and Eddie Marshall, both of The University of Maine at Presque Isle; Hank St. Pierre, University of Maine at Farmington;  Ralph Givens, University of Maine at Fort Kent. Northern and Southern Division All-Star Teams’ members had been recognized and received framed certificates during a meeting of the Maine Sports’ Writers and Basketball Coaches’ Association at the Silent Woman REstaurant, Waterville.

Girl Scout award night — Twenty-one guests were present when Girl Scout Troop 259 met Thursday, Mars 14, at Bethany Baptist Church for a candlelight badge award program. The flag ceremony was followed by the Girl Scout Song sung by Carmen White. Each girl lit a yellow candle and repeated a Girl Scout law, after the lighting of three green candles representing the three parts of the Girl Scout Promise. Co-leaders Mrs. Dorothy Morris and Mrs. Lana Avery distributed the badges and congratulated each girl as they came forward with their parents or grandparents.  

25 Years Ago – March 31, 1999

Hotshot state winners — Placing either first or second at the State Hotshot Championships, held March 6 in Orono, were Kerri Cunningham of Fort Fairfield, girls’ 9-10 winner; Nicole Ames of Canaan, girls’ 9-10 runner-up; Natasha Deschene of Presque Isle, girls’ 11-12 winner; Ashley Nemer of Ashland, girls’ 11-12 runner-up; Brianne Searles of Skowhegan, girls’ 13-15 winner; Kaitlyn Leeman of Woodland (Baileyville), girls’ 13-15 runner-up; Jenny Boucher of Madawaska, girls’ 16-18 runner-up; Justin Stewart of Houlton, boys’ 9-10 winner; Michael LaCassee of Skowhegan, boys’ 9-10 runner-up; Danny Michaud of Mapleton, boys’ 11-12 winner; James Ramsdell of Pembroke, boys’ 11-12 runner-up; Ryan Lockhart of Presque Isle, boys’ 13-15 winner; Benjamin Deschene of Presque Isle, boys’ 13-15 runner-up; Matthew Fortin of Presque Isle, boys’ 16-18 winner; and Jay O’Connell of Houlton, boys’ 16-18 runner-up.

School received technology funding — Bridgewater Grammar School received $2,002 in E-Rate funding. The funds used to discount the school’s telecommunications, internet and networking costs bringing information directly into the classroom.Jet pilot training — Norma Jean Triola, daughter of John and Nina Trask, completed jet pilot training in Montreal, Canada, for U.S. express. She flew the Regional Jet out of Philadelphia, but continued to live with her family in Orlando, Florida. Norma Jean had been a captain with the airline since 1991 and had been one of the company’s check airmen and an instructor pilot.
