Helpful suggestion — There seems to be considerable building going on in Caribou this season and we would suggest that the roofs be covered with some fireproof material. This certainly would make the insurance cheaper and lessen the chances of fire catching from sparks.

County bank now located in an attractive new building — A completely new and modern $60,000 bank building, housing the Aroostook County Federal Savings & Loan Association, has had its doors open on High St. here for three months and represents the latest achievement of a Caribou banking concern which started in here in 1936 with capital of only $5,000. Its assets, during the past 13 years, however, have skyrocketed and now total $1,620,224.47. There are more than 600 shareholders, and all loans, according to the secretary and treasurer, Mrs. Elizabeth S. Kirkpatrick, are paying and in good condition. Sleepers store goes through changes to give back to the community — In the quest for a sharper look and the desire to give back to the community, Sleepers Store has gone through some major changes. A team of owners and employees got together to decide on a new design and look of the footwear and clothing departments. Traditionally, Sleepers has been known for its athletic and work-related footwear departments which have always been located upstairs beside groceries. There had been no changes to the store in the past 25 years. With the help of Joe Joe Sleeper, co-owner of Sleepers and the input of this co-workers, LaPointe built new dressing rooms, cut the stairs back 10 feet, put in new lighting, ceilings, and mirrors, installed a satellite stereo sound system and laminate wood flooring, and put in a large front window. The goal of the project was to create an atmosphere and a ‘store within a store’ feeling.
