A car caught fire after hitting a deer Saturday on Interstate 95 in Aroostook County, state police said.

Troopers say Candyce Marsh, 43, of Fort Kent, was driving a 2024 Subaru Forester southbound in Dyer Brook and struck a deer. After pulling to the side of the roadway, Marsh and her child exited the vehicle.

The vehicle caught fire when an electrical component sparked due to the impact from the crash, police said. Both the woman and her child got out of the car before it ignited.

The vehicle became engulfed in flames in a matter of minutes and was eventually put out by fire officials.

The vehicle was destroyed and burned beyond repair.
