CARIBOU, Maine – Police arrested a Caribou man recently for alleged drug activity after discovering a stolen boat on his property.

While investigating a loose dog complaint on Limestone Street Aug. 19, Officer Chad Cochran noticed a boat that appeared similar to a 16-inch aluminum Starcraft boat stolen from a Van Buren Road property in July.

Two days later, Cochran obtained a search warrant and determined that the boat was the stolen property, according to a press release from Caribou Police Department.

During the search, the homeowner Joshua Akerson, 38, was arrested and charged with receiving stolen property, a Class C charge; possession of firearms by a prohibited person, Class A; and two Class D counts of furnishing Schedule Z drugs. More charges might be pending, according to Caribou Police.

Akerson posted bail Aug. 21 and will appear at Caribou Superior Court Oct. 4.

Caribou Police is still searching for items unaccounted for from the alleged burglary on Van Buren Road and is asking anyone with information to call the Caribou station at (207) 493-3301.
