Fournier honored on retirement – Louis Fournier was honored on his retirement from the Madawaska Post Office with a party at Una’s Restaurant, Madawaska, in September of 1974. Attending were Norman Albert, Raoul Cyr, Marcel Chartier, Darius Levesque, Roger Plourde, Richard Deschenes, Gary Bailey, Bertrand Cyr, Louis Toussaint and Valere Sirois. Fournier had been with the Post Office for 20 of his 24 years of government service.

Chamber names citizen of the month – Marcel Chartier has been named the Greater Madawaska Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Month. Chartier was nominated by the town of St. Agatha for his overall effort to make the community a better place. Chartier is currently the director of the French choir at the St. Agatha Parish. He is also the chairman of the worship and spirituality committee and is a former member of the parish council. Chartier also helps the St. Agatha and Frenchville senior citizen clubs by cooking for them on a monthly basis.

Three towns receive loss prevention dividends — Three towns have each received a dividend check from the Maine Municipal Association as a result of their “good loss experience and loss prevention programs,” according to a press release from each town. The town of Fort Kent has received $1,924, the town of St. Agatha has received a dividend check for $1,523, and the town of Wallagrass has received $310. The Maine Municipal Association offers three self-funded pools for municipal and quasi-public in Maine: the Workers Compensation Fund, the Property & Casualty Pool and the Unemployment Compensation Fund.
