VAN BUREN, Maine – Real Cyr, 74, of Madawaska is in critical condition after a single vehicle crash in Van Buren near the Grand Isle town line on Monday morning, according to a press release from the Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office.
Cyr, according to the release, was traveling south in a 2021 Toyota Highlander when his vehicle crossed the center line and struck a utility pole at 7 a.m.
Van Buren Fire Department extricated Cyr from the vehicle and he was taken to Northern Maine Medical Center in critical condition. Cyr was later life-flighted to Bangor.
Cyr’s passenger, Monique Cyr, 72, was also taken to NMMC with non-life-threatening injuries.
The crash caused a power outage in the area for about two hours on Monday morning. The road was reduced to one lane as Versant Power replaced the pole. Van Buren Ambulance, Van Buren Public Works, Madawaska Ambulance, and the Presque Isle Police Department also assisted.
The Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating the crash with assistance from a Presque Isle Police Department Crash Reconstructionist.
