HOULTON, Maine — Christmas may be over, but that doesn’t mean the gift-giving season has to come to an end.
“Houltonopoly,” a real estate board game presented by the Houlton High School Alumni Association is now available. The board game was created as a fundraiser for the Alumni Association.
“The game is similar to the traditional ‘Monopoly’ game, but all aspects have been personalized,” explained Nancy Ketch, president of the Alumni Association. “All of the spaces on the board represent local businesses and organizations, the money and houses are sponsored and there are even customized tokens of local landmarks. In addition there are a number of patron sponsors that helped to support the production of the game.”
The game was first announced back in September, and officials had hoped to have the game on-hand in time for the holidays. But production took longer than anticipated, with the games arriving Thursday, Dec. 28.
Ketch said the association celebrated its 20th anniversary throughout 2017 and started the process of developing the Houltonopoly game as another way to commemorate the milestone.
Proceeds from the sales of the board game will be used to help with scholarships and other projects. The association has presented more than $500,000 in scholarships to graduating seniors and provided over $250,000 for projects at the high school over the past 20 years.
The games cost $30 each and are available for sale locally at Cole’s Shoe Store, WHOU, York’s of Houlton, Volumes, the County Co-op, JEI Sports and the Greater Houlton Chamber of Commerce. Games also can be ordered online at the Alumni Association’s website www.houltonalumni.com. Credit card payments are accepted on the website. The association also will ship the games for an additional $12 each. That option also is available on the website.
