Shriners invite families for pediatric screening

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Local Shriners and Shriners Hospitals for Children will sponsor a pediatric orthopedic and burn injury medical screening clinic on Saturday, May 12, in Presque Isle.

The event, one of seven statewide, will take place at the Aroostook Shrine Club, 390 Houlton Rd., from 9 a.m. to 12 noon.

Through the screening sessions, Shriners aim to make sure children in need have access to care. There is no cost for families to attend and no appointment is necessary.

Shriners Hospitals for Children specialize in the following: clubfoot, spina bifida, Legg-Calve-Perthes disease, juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, bone infections, scoliosis and other spine deformities, chest wall deformities, hand and shoulder deformities, cleft lip and palate, brittle bone disease, hip disorders, cerebral palsy, burn injuries, port wine stains, hemangiomas, scarring and deformities of the face, specialized wound care, skin disorders, reconstructive and laser plastic surgery and severe scarring resulting in contractures or interfering with mobility.

Other sessions will be held in Bangor, Dover-Foxcroft, Belfast, Calais, Ellsworth and Machias.
