Solier is Loring Job Corps Star Student

LIMESTONE, Maine — Loring Job Corps Center officials have announced Alexis Solier as the Star Student of the Quarter.

Solier is from Woonsocket, R.I., and joined Team Loring in January 2017.

Before choosing to come to Loring, he was working part-time jobs with no real long-term goals other than the hope that he could continue to earn some type of paycheck to support himself.

Solier said he choose Job Corps because he realized he needed more in his life and determined that Job Corps would serve as the foundation for a better life. He needed to gain education and training to take him beyond the part-time world, and found it right in northern Maine.

He said many of his friends at home asked him why he chose to come to Loring, which is so far away from home, and he told them that coming to Loring he found himself without  distractions or the ability to talk himself out of taking those important next steps.

“Up here you can surround yourself with others who are striving for the same things, and together we have realized we truly do help each other each and every day,” he said.

Solier indicated his next steps after completing the carpentry program at Loring are to go on to one of the many Job Corps advanced training courses, or even possibly enroll in the advanced college program through Loring Job Corps and Northern Maine Community College in Presque Isle.

Although still planning for the future, Solier said one thing will always remain constant: he has found out that every training and educational opportunity should be taken early on: “Because you always can use training and knowledge, no matter what you do,” he added.
