HOULTON, Maine — Much of the Shiretown was without power Friday afternoon as electrical officials work to repair an equipment issue.
According to Greg Sherman, general manager of Houlton Water Company, a pole and insulator on the sub-transmission system failed.
“Our line crew was able to open and close switches on our sub-transmission system to maintain power to our remaining substations, except for the Bangor Street substation,” Sherman said. “The outage is isolated to our Bangor Street Substation, which does supply a major portion of the town of Houlton.”
Sherman estimated the work to repair the issue could take upwards of five hours hours. The power went off around 1 p.m.
“We apologize for the inconvenience, but we are working as safely and quickly as possible to repair,” he said.
