Central Aroostook Junior-Senior High School reveals honor parts

MARS HILL, Maine — Central Aroostook Junior-Senior High School of Mars Hill has announced the honor parts for the Class of 2018. They are: valedictorian, Isabelle Wright; salutatorian, Sarah Sargent; first honor essayist, Jessica Thomas; and second honor essayist, Michaela Pelletier.

Wright is the daughter of Edward and Tracy Wright of Blaine. She has held membership in the National Honor Society, Spanish Club, Math Team, Youth and Government, and the Mars Hill Chapter of the FFA. Isabelle was chosen for All-Aroostook for chorus while in high school and helped to put together the CAHS 2018 yearbook.

She has played varsity soccer, basketball, golf and softball. She has earned academic awards in advanced English, calculus, Spanish and anatomy. She was recognized recently as a six-year honoree, which means she has achieved the honor roll at Central Aroostook for 23 consecutive quarters.

She received the Phi Beta Kappa Society Academic Achievement Award in 2017 and was a top 10 finalist for Maine’s United States Senate Youth Program. She was also awarded the Maine Principal’s Award for the CAHS class of 2018. She has volunteered at the Fort Street School, teaching a math enrichment course to gifted and talented students. She has also volunteered at Special Olympics, Wilderness Day Camp, and at various events for the Mars Hill Rotary.

Next year, Wright will attend Colby College to study biology/pre-med. She plans to continue her education at medical school and eventually become a pediatric surgeon.

Sargent is the daughter of Alan and Janet Sargent of Bridgewater. She has earned academic awards in advanced biology, Algebra I and II, geometry, chemistry, English and Spanish. Sarah was recently recognized as a six-year honoree, having achieved the honor roll for 23 consecutive quarters.

She has performed community services projects while in high school, including volunteering for breakfast with Santa and working for the elderly in the community.

Sargent will attend the University of Maine at Presque Isle, studying to be a physical therapy assistant.

Thomas is the daughter of Matthew and Linda Thomas of Mars Hill. She has participated in varsity soccer, basketball, and softball. She has also been involved in the Mars Hill chapter of the FFA, student council and the National Honor Society.

She earned academic awards in chemistry and English. She has held leadership positions such as class vice president, student council secretary and NHS secretary. She has participated in service to her community by going on a missions trip to South Africa where she led Bible camp activities, provided childcare and handed out necessities.

Thomas plans to attend Liberty University in the fall to study nursing and global studies.

Pelletier is the daughter of Michael and Maggie Blevins of Mars Hill. She has participated in many activities at Central Aroostook, including the National Honor Society, Student Council, Yearbook, and Youth and Government. Michaela has also played varsity soccer, serving as captain her senior year.

She was an integral part of CAHS’s state champion cheering squad, serving as captain her senior year. She has served as president of the National Honor Society, president of the Student Council, and has earned academic achievement awards in Spanish. She was also recognized recently as a six-year honoree, having achieved the honor roll for 23 consecutive quarters.

She has volunteered at our junior high soccer tournament, breakfasts with Santa, junior high cheerleading competition and the Toys for Tots Christmas drive.

Pelletier plans to attend The University of Maine at Presque Isle to study nursing.

The class of 2018 will graduate on June 8, 2018, with exercise being held in the Central Aroostook Jr. Sr. High School gymnasium at 7:30 p.m.
