Good takes first in 100 at PVC meet
BREWER — The Presque Isle Wildcats had some solid individual efforts at Friday’s Penobscot Valley Conference Large School Track and Field Championships.
’Cat athletes will close out the season this Saturday at the Class B state championship meet, to be held at Mount Desert Island High School beginning at 10 a.m.
The PI boys team placed fifth out of nine teams in the PVC event, while the girls were in last. Bangor took both titles.
LOGAN GOOD grabs the baton from relay teammate Sam Clukey during Friday’s PVC championships held in Brewer. Good took first in the 100-meter dash as the Wildcats’ lone event winner.
Logan Good of the Wildcats won the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.85 seconds. Matt Eager turned in two second-place performances, in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 4:34.66 and in the 3,200 in 10:02.27. He was also sixth in the high jump at 5 feet, 4 inches. Mitchell Ayotte was second in the high jump at 5 feet, 8 inches and third in the long jump at 19 feet, 2 inches.
Others placing were Ben Sipe, fifth in the 100; Scott Delong, fifth in the javelin; and Trey Stewart, sixth in the shot put.
PI’s top placement in a relay was in the 4 X 100, as Sipe, Isaac Estey, Sam Clukey and Good raced to a time of 47.03 seconds, good for fifth.
The Wildcats scored 48 points as a team, ahead of Ellsworth, MDI, Old Town and Hermon.
The girls team at PIHS managed just 13 points in the meet. Most of those points were picked up in the 1,600-meter race walk as Amanda Bennett was second in 8:42.99 and Bonnie Corey fourth in 9:07.95.
Coming in sixth in the 4 X 100-meter relay was the team of Samantha Simonds, Jacqueline Lambert, Kaleigh Kinney and Erica Hemphill. Their time was 55.66 seconds.
