Bishop, Albert D., 80, of Caribou and Presque Isle, died July 19 at Caribou. Friends may call at the Mockler Funeral Home, July 25, 2007 from 9:00 am until time of services. Memorial services will be held 11:00 am at the funeral home. Interment will take place at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. CARIBOU and PRESQUE ISLE – Albert D. Bishop, 80, died July 19, 2007 at Caribou. He was born at Presque Isle, July 19, 1927, the son of Percy and Phoebe (Fournier) Bishop. He graduated from Presque Isle High School in 1946. He served in the US Army in South Korea in 1946 through 1948. He received the WWII Victory Medial and the Army of Occupation Medal – “Japan”. He attended the University of Maine, Orono majoring in Business Administration with a minor in Personnel Admin-istration. At the University he was a member of the campus Lambda Chi Fraternity House and wore the Lambda Chi Fraternity gold and pearl house number 594 Beta pin. He began a 35 years Civil Service career at the Presque Isle Air Force Base and managed the Local Purchase Store of the Base Supply Squadron. After reassignment to Loring AFB, he was promoted to Director of Civilian Personnel. In that capacity he was awarded the 42D Bomb Wing “Well Done Certificate” in 1971, the USAF Special Achievement Award in 1975 and 1979 and the 40 SAC, “Best in SAC CC PO” for 1981. After retiring, Al pursued his hobbies of photography, gardening and reading. He spent many hours at the Caribou Public Library where he enjoyed browsing the stacks and chatting with the library staff members. His winter scene-scape photograph won an honorable 2nd place prize in a photo essay contest. Al’s gardens always drew attention to his home. In 1992 he won the Caribou Garden Club plaque for best home owner’s flower garden and landscaping beautification.
Albert is survived by two sisters-in-law Ada Bishop of Presque Isle and Frances Bishop of Houlton; several nieces and nephews; several great nieces and nephews and several close friends.
