TAMC again earns an ‘A’ in patient safety

TAMC has once again earned a top grade in patient safety by an independent national non-profit run by employers and other large purchasers of health benefits. The latest update to the Hospital Safety Score, released by The Leapfrog Group, shows TAMC receiving an “A” ranking in the industry watchdog’s spring 2014 assessment of U.S. hospitals when it comes to preventing medical errors, injuries, accidents and infections.

The Hospital Safety Score was compiled under the guidance of the nation’s leading experts on patient safety. The first and only hospital safety rating to be peer-reviewed in the Journal of Patient Safety, Hospital Safety Score is designed to give the public information they can use to protect themselves and their families when facing a hospital stay.
“It is indeed gratifying for us to be included again this year among the state and nation’s safest hospitals. While it is nice to get recognized for the great work we do, the real reward is in knowing we put our patients’ well-being first,” said Dr. Jay Reynolds, TAMC chief medical officer and chief clinical officer. “Patient safety is not a slogan here, it is deep in our culture. It is the TAMC way.”
Calculated under the guidance of The Leapfrog Group’s Blue Ribbon Expert Panel, the Hospital Safety Score uses 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to produce a single A, B, C, D or F score representing a hospital’s overall capacity to keep patients safe from preventable harm. More than 2,500 hospitals across the country were assigned scores in the latest rating, with about 32 percent, including TAMC, receiving an “A” grade.
