Presque Isle FD contains fire at Water Street house

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — A fire broke out at the residence of 12A and 12B Water Street in Presque Isle on Thursday.

The fire began at around 12:30 p.m. with no one inside the structure. No injuries were reported.

Versant Power arrived to shut off power around 20 minutes after the Presque Isle Fire Department showed up to contain the fire. Presque Isle Police Department blocked off access to both ends of Water Street as fire crews worked to contain the fire.

“We found smoke and flames coming out of the attic space of 12A Water St.,” said Presque Isle deputy fire chief Adam Rider. “We did an interior attack and quickly extinguished the fire.”

The fire was fully extinguished at around 2 p.m. with the scene being cleared by Presque Isle fire crews at 2:05 p.m.

The cause of the fire is undetermined and still being investigated, but the probable cause is an electrical fire, Rider said.
