    CARTER, Clair Eugene, 91, EASTON, at Caribou, March 7, 2015. A celebration of his life will take place 1 p.m., March 21, 2015, at the New Song Church in Easton. Arrangements are under the care of Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, Presque Isle.

    EASTON – Clair Eugene Carter quietly passed away on Saturday evening, March 7, 2015, 17 days before his 92nd birthday. His passage was at the Maine Veterans Home in Caribou.  American-Flag-Color
    Clair was born in Masardis, ME, on March 24, 1923, the son of Clair Alton and Pearl Leona Carter. He graduated from Oakfield High School in 1940. In 1943, he entered into service for his country and was stationed throughout New Guinea and the South Pacific with the 849th Engineer Aviation Battalion as Battalion clerk. He truly was among those considered “The Greatest Generation.” After his discharge from the Army Air Corps in 1945, Clair continued his education at Husson College in Bangor and graduated from the University of Maine in Orono with a BA degree in Business Education.
    Clair began his teaching career in Patten, ME, but for the majority of his career, was a business teacher and later Principal of Easton High School in Aroostook County. During his 28-year career, he was a loved and respected teacher, coach and principal. He was an advocate for the sons and daughters of Easton. After his retirement from Easton High School, he worked for another 10 years for the U.S. Census service traveling throughout Aroostook County.
    Clair, along with his beloved wife, Eldora, were active and respected members of the United Methodist Church and Easton community. Clair was an active member of the American Legion and Kiwanis Club.
    He loved to fly fish the Prestile and the River de Chute streams and had a great love for the outdoors and all of its wonders. Clair had several times taken high school field trips to the top of Mt. Katahadin and loved to hike, walk, skate, and cross country ski. Many times he would be seen with his wife, children and/or grandkids, heading out of town with his pop-up camper for a week-end camping trip. He loved to talk to people for the sheer pleasure of the conversation.
    Surviving Clair are his loving children, Jeffery and partner, Sue Gartley, Vaughn and wife, Cheryl, Andrea Celayeta and husband, Tony, Michael and wife, Beth, Dana and wife, Kim, and Wendell and wife, Doreen; a sister, Judith of Patten; a brother, Robert Carter of Berwick, ME. He is missed by his grandchildren, Travis and wife, Sheri, Julie Nadeau and husband, Matt, Troy and wife, Lori, Alyce Genova and husband, Alan, Adam Celayeta, Jeremy, Emily, Molly and Kyle. His six beautiful and loved great-grandchildren also survive Clair.
    Clair was pre-deceased by his cherished wife of 66 years, Eldora Leita; and daughter, Amy Louise; also his parents and sister, Nina Weir.
    A celebration of Clair’s life will take place 1 p.m., March 21, 2015, at the New Song Church in Easton.
