AMITY —A 47-year-old Amity man died sometime Saturday evening as the result of an ATV crash. According to reports from the Maine Warden Service, Mark Howell was reported missing at 2 a.m. when he failed to return home from hunting.
Wardens searched for Howell during the night and his body was located at approximately 8 a.m. According to the MWS, Howell had been riding an ATV on the Estabrook Road when he hit a tree. Howell was not wearing a helmet and was pronounced dead at the scene.
At presstime, MWS spokeswoman Deborah Turcotte reported that speed and operator error were factors in the case.
The incident remains under investigation by Warden Sgt. Durwood Humphrey.
