ASHLAND — A break-in at the Ashland Food Mart over the weekend remains under investigation.
The incident is believed to have taken place sometime either late Saturday night, Jan. 31, or early Sunday morning, Feb. 1.     Police believe the thief or thieves entered the structure through a back entryway.
Ashland Police Chief Cyr Martin indicated the thief or thieves then proceeded to destroy the store’s safe. As a result, the individual or individuals were able to steal an undisclosed amount of cash. Cigarettes and other merchandise were also reported taken.
No estimate was available on damage to the structure or the safe.
Martin is asking the public for help with solving the case. Anyone with leads on the break-in or anyone who saw a person or persons walking along Route 163 between the hours of midnight and 8 a.m. Sunday is asked to contact the Ashland Police Department at 435-6626 or the Maine State Police at 532-5400.
