The greeting card distribution was part of a larger effort by Bangor Savings Bank employees, who signed and delivered holiday cards to 800 residents of Maine Veterans’ Homes in Augusta, Bangor, Caribou, Machias, Scarborough and South Paris.
In Caribou, Bangor Savings Regional Marketing Manager Chris Nickerson also presented a $500 check to Veterans’ Home staff for the Veterans’ Fund, which is used to provide personal care items and services for residents.
“Maine veterans are an important part of the community and deserve our gratitude for their service to this country. Bangor Savings Bank is pleased to make this donation to the Caribou Veterans’ Home as a gesture of thanks to these brave men and women,” said Jim Conlon, president and CEO of Bangor Savings Bank.
While handing out the greeting cards to the residents, Nickerson and the two employees who accompanied her often heard stories from the veterans about their military experience.
“We came hoping to spread a little holiday cheer and took away a new understanding and respect for the sacrifices these veterans made,” said Nickerson. “This was such a successful effort that we’ve already started planning for future visits in 2013.”
