CARIBOU, Maine — Burger Boy owner Spenser Ouellette was awarded Entrepreneur of the Year during the annual Recognition Dinner, sponsored by the Caribou Area Chamber of Commerce, on May 8.
Ouellette bought the iconic Caribou eatery in early 2013, and Director of the Caribou Area Chamber of Commerce William Tasker fondly recounted their first introduction — and his first thoughts about the new owner.
“One of the very first things I thought to myself is ‘what a challenge — to take something that’s so iconic as Burger Boy and become the new owner, with all the expectations everyone has for a place like that,” Tasker recalled. “And here it is, a year and a half later, and (Ouellette) has pulled off a rare trick — not only is it a place that still makes the people who loved it before happy, but he’s expanded the clientele and it’s even busier now than it’s ever been.”
Tasker also expressed his appreciation for the contributions Ouellette has made to the Caribou Chamber, volunteering his time and even giving out free food during the Thursdays on Sweden festivities.
“We’re very thankful that Spenser has taken over a business that’s so important to Caribou … and kept it the joy and the treat that it’s been for so many years, and made it even better,” Tasker added. “That’s a tough trick, and for that, he is our Entrepreneur of the Year.”
Receiving his award, Ouellette thanked his customers, the city of Caribou, and the chamber.
“When I bought Burger Boy back in 2012, I knew it was a huge risk for me because of my young age and because it was, and still is, a successful business,” Ouellette described. “I’m not going to lie, it hasn’t been easy the past year and a half; it’s really been a challenge getting to know the business, getting to know the employees and the customers, but I’m really glad that I did buy the business in Caribou.”
“I want to thank you for your support and for this award,” Ouellette added. “It’s a real honor for me.”
