Climate change of the business kind

SmallBusiness    The snow is falling outside my window and despite my disbelief in that we are facing winter already, I am feeling good about the business climate here in the Caribou area. I did have to laugh when I received Sleeper’s weekly sales e-mail in a line David related from a customer. Apparently the customer said that it was the first time in memory a landscaping bill came in the same week as a snow plowing bill! Yep, that’s northern Maine!

Despite the weather, as I was saying, the business climate has me encouraged as two new businesses have opened up in the area and one has been given a shot in the arm with new ownership.
First, Gemsations has opened a holiday store in the Skyway Plaza. Gemsations has been a holiday tradition around our area for 17 years. Doris and James Cushman spend most of the summer and fall traveling to craft shows around the state, but come November, they have opened their business at the mall in Presque Isle for the last 15 years.
But this year, they decided to open a store in Caribou at the Skyway Plaza where they have more room to display their varied items of jewelry, rocks, fossils and many gift items perfect for something different for the holiday shopper. Check out my Facebook story on them, but more importantly, check out their store! The Chamber thanks them for becoming a seasonal member of the Chamber.
On Monday, Nov. 17, the Chamber will assist in a grand opening event for Pathways Wellness Group, LLP. Pathways Wellness Group, LLP is a firm of mental health therapists that treat clients referred by schools, medical providers and the court system. The business is located across the street from our Nylander Museum office in one of Gagnon Rental Properties’ fine buildings.
Last but not least, Crystal Fulton has purchased the former Carpet Barn at 799 Main Street and has renamed the business, Hisco Carpet Barn. The Fultons have been all over the country but fell in love with this area and decided to make it their home. That enthusiasm will bring energy to the well-known business and location on North Main Street.
The Carpet Barn was focused mainly on the commercial end of flooring, but Fulton is changing that focus to commercial and residential. And the lovely location will be more than just a flooring store. Fulton wants to make the big red barn a destination shopping place with antiques and home décor and much more.
