To the editor:
I would like to take a few moments to address an editorial last week entitled “Seniors deserve better from city” by B. Michaud. On behalf of the city of Presque Isle and the Presque Isle Recreation & Parks Department, I personally wish to convey the importance and significance that seniors play in this community. The needs and opinions of our seniors are very important to us and are a driving factor in our decision making. In Mr. Michaud’s article he referenced the $50 fee for the use of the Mantle Lake Park pavilion. I recently spoke with Star City Senior President, Donna Devoe about this issue. After discussing her concerns and learning more details about the group, it has been decided to bring this policy back to the Advisory Board to re-evaluate for possible exceptions in the future.
If ever there are issues or questions regarding one of our policies, programs or facilities, I encourage anyone to contact myself or one of our staff. Regardless of the size of the issue, if it is a concern of the citizens of this community, then it is important to this Department. I certainly cannot promise a specific outcome, but I can ensure these concerns will not go unaddressed.
For information regarding one of the Department’s policies, programs or facilities or to contact myself or other members of the Department, we can be reached by phone at 764-2545, e-mail at pirec.com or check us out on the Web at www.pirec.org.
