Evelyn H. Pearce Leaves Library After 43 Years Service — Miss Evelyn H. Pearce, who has been connected with the Cary Library here since 1906 and who has been Librarian since 1928, yesterday tendered her resignation to the board of trustees after 43 years of continuous service to the institution.

Fort Fairfield chooses Limestone’s volunteer chief — Paul C.  Durepo off Limestone has been named the town’s new fire chief. Durepo was recommended by Town manager Dan Foster and confirmed by the town council ast last Wednesday’s meeting. Durepo, 49, has served in Limestone’s volunteer fire department for 30 years, the last 16 as chief.

Runaway buffalo keeps locals on the run – A popular local and tourist attraction, Pelletier’s 11-member buffalo herd, escaped from its Route 161 pen early last week in August 1999, and he’s been chasing them through the woods ever since with the help of family, friends and a few surprised visitors.

J. Shannon of Mauston, Wisconsin.

Sylvanus Davis retired after 29 years with police — Sylvanus Davis, an officer with the Presque Isle Police Department for almost 29 years, retired from his duties. Davis started as a patrolman with the force following a stint with the U.S. Border Patrol.
