HOULTON — Virtual reality is taking on a new form for local residents looking to work from home — all they need is a quiet place, a computer and a telephone and they’ve got themselves a second income.
Stewart Staffing has been employing people from around the area for the past several months and the marketing firm is looking to hire additional staff.
“Houlton has been wonderful for us, people have been extremely compatible,” remarked Dan Conners, vice-president of sales and marketing. “There’s an excellent workforce there.”
Conners said their company is a vendor of services for marketing — everything from TV infomercials to lawn and garden; and all their agents are trained on how to speak about the products as though they owned the company.
“We provide work for people who otherwise wouldn’t have work, and we provide a second income for families who really, really need it,” said Conners. “They can take calls from home, around the clock, 24 hours, seven days a week, earning money for each call they take either on a per minute basis or a blended per minute plus commission per sale. The good thing is that people don’t have to get into their cars and drive 60 miles. They can work in the comfort of their homes.”
The Portland-based company has independent contractors, which they work for. They currently have 75 agents and their goal for next year is to increase that number to 200.
Stewart Staffing will be conducting an on-site training session next Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at the Houlton Regional Hospital from 6-9 p.m.
