Students in Pre-Kindergarten through grade two at the Mill Pond School recently completed their Read-a-Thon and just barely topped their goal of reading 20,000 minutes and raised over $1200 to buy books for the classrooms. To celebrate, K-2 students had a skating and sliding party at the arena and derby hill.Submitted photo
TOP READERS — Receiving awards for reading the most minutes were: Bethany DeVoe, Austin Sennett, Nicholas Sherman, Devin Ivey, and Ben Walker. Absent from the photo is Isaac Jurson.
Also, students had an assembly where they cheered for themselves for reaching their goal and recognized the top readers from each class. Mrs. Wiley and Mrs. Harbison competed in an obstacle course where they mixed, sifted, and created a mess while trying to be the first to get the cookie dough made. They then raced around cones, through hoops, and across a balance beam with their cookie sheet of dough to be the first
to get it into the oven. Finally, all students enjoyed cookies and milk served by the principals. Mrs. Harbison won the award for the neatest cook, but Mrs. Wiley was the first to get the cookies into the oven.
