To the editor:
Whenever I hear a politician state that he or she is pro-choice, I do not believe that they are stating fully what pro-choice really means. To me it simply means that a woman gives the abortion doctor the right and task to kill her unborn baby. This tragedy has happened many millions of times in our nation since the United States Supreme Court voted to legalize this practice in 1973.
I cannot believe that our grandparents ever could have thought that this situation, where it is legal to kill an unborn child, would happen. It is illegal to kill a moose out of season — to do so means that the person convicted of the crime will serve jail time and be subject to pay a substantial fine. Yet a doctor, with a woman’s consent, can kill an innocent, unborn child without any repercussion. How does this make sense? To me it does not.
With the financial condition of our country and the possibility that Social Security and Medicare funds could become depleted, what will happen when the funds get low or run out? If the unborn can be killed, is it possible that the elderly will be next through euthanasia? Think about how many lives are taken away every year due to abortion. These lives could have been prominent, contributing members of society, helping our economy and paying into our tax system.
We have two men running for president and we have a choice: one is pro-life and does not believe in abortion. The other is pro-choice and does believe in abortion. We must choose very wisely when we go to vote.
