HOULTON — Polaris Cable Service’s relocation in early January will mean more services for consumers and better accessibility for them as well as the company’s vehicles, according to Gordon Wark, president of NEPSK, Inc., which owns Polaris Cable and WAGM TV (channel 8). Polaris’ parent company, recently purchased the building at 34 Military Street, from North Country Auto which expanded and moved to North Street. Polaris will move from its 72 Main Street location as soon as phone lines are installed, up and running according to Wark.
“We need a place to bring vehicles and trucks inside to load and store equipment on the same level,” said Wark. But, he adds, in addition to facilitating the company’s ease of movement, consumers can look forward to a number of new services including Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP) — digital phone service. He says for $39.95 consumers will get unlimited calls to the U.S., Canada and U.S. territories and possessions. Various service packages will be bundled for residents who want to combine phone, high-speed Internet and video.
By early February, high-speed Internet service will be almost two times faster. Also in early February, the towns of Littleton, Monticello and Bridgewater will be integrated into the Houlton cable system with more channels and high-speed service will be available to residents of Oakfield. Office Manager Bonnie Hunt and the staff will be at the new location to assist customers and she says they are looking forward to the move which they have been planning for months.
