Lynne Brabant and Athena Hallowell’s second-grade classes at the Mapleton Elementary School recently invited Judy Kenney, president of Maine Agri Women, to their classrooms to read “All Around the Farm.” The book was donated to each classroom as part of Ag Awareness Week. Over 3,500 Maine children around the state listened to the story.
“Read ME Agriculture Project” has the goal of promoting agriculture and making Maine children aware of the importance of agriculture in their daily lives. The book stressed the many jobs, different agriculture products, and farm tools that are involved around the farms in Maine and the nation. The book and related classroom activities were donated to participating classrooms.
Mary Anne Buck also read to Kristi Stoutamyer’s and Rebecca Langille’s first-grade classrooms. Thirty-five classrooms in Aroostook County had the chance to hear the story and get a free copy of the book for classroom use. A major sponsor of this project is the Maine Potato Board.
