Just nine days remain in the regular season for local girls teams, and Central Aroostook and Presque Isle are continuing to make their push for the No. 1 seed in their respective divisions.
The Panthers helped themselves with wins over Katahdin and Ashland last week. They continue to hold the lead over No. 2 Southern Aroostook in Eastern Maine Class D.
Presque Isle lost for the first time this season last Wednesday to MDI, but bounced back to beat Bucksport Saturday and are neck and neck with the Trojans atop the EM ‘B’ Heal Point rankings.
Summaries of games played through Monday are as follows:
Central Aroostook 53, Katahdin 34 – At Stacyville Monday, Vicki McIntyre connected for 18 points as Central Aroostook defeated Katahdin.
Brianna Hartin tallied 14 points and Rachel Grew hit four 3-pointers for 12 points for the 13-2 Panthers.
Presque Isle 76, Bucksport 32 – At Presque Isle Saturday, Chandler Guerrette led four Presque Isle scorers in double figures with 17 points as the Wildcats defeated Bucksport to move to 15-1 overall.
Chelsea Nickerson netted 12 points for Presque Isle. Haley Johnston scored 11 points while Kayla Richards added 10.
Sadie Wight scored 11 points to pace Bucksport.
Mount Desert Island 55, Presque Isle 36 – At Bar Harbor last Wednesday, a 20-4 third-quarter run was too much to overcome as the Wildcats lost for the first time this season.
MDI improved to 12-1 as Megan Phelps had 17 points and 17 rebounds to lead a group of four players in double figures.
Kayla Richards scored 16 points as PI’s only double-figure scorer.
Washburn 67, GHCA 32 – At Washburn last Tuesday, Becca Campbell poured in 28 points to spark Washburn by Greater Houlton Christian Academy.
Rayah Saucier chipped in with 13 points for the Beavers.
