Driver dies of ‘natural causes’

PRESQUE ISLE — A Presque Isle man died of what police believe were natural causes, following a single-vehicle accident on U.S. Route 1 north of the city March 2.
“At approximately 8:05 a.m., the Presque Isle Police Department received a 9-1-1 call reporting a vehicle off the road on the Caribou Road. The caller indicated the operator was unresponsive,” said Sgt. Joey Seeley, investigating officer, PIPD.
According to Seeley, the operator, 62-year-old James Boyles, of Presque Isle, was traveling south in a 2000 Ford Ranger when he experienced an unspecified condition, crossed the center line and left the roadway on the opposite side of the Caribou Road.
“The Presque Isle Fire Department and Crown Ambulance responded. Boyles was transported to The Aroostook Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead,” said Seeley.
Seeley said an official cause of death has not been released and the incident remains under investigation.
Assisting Seeley at the scene were PIPD Officers Kevin Reed and Rob Thibeault.
Funeral services for Boyles were conducted March 5 at the Castle Hill Advent Christian Church, with Pastor Lucy Lovely officiating. A spring interment, with military honors, will be in the Maine Veterans Cemetery in Caribou.
