The class of 2010 prepares

for final Easton school events

EASTON NEWS

by Debbie Smith

Time is just getting away from us and it is almost graduation time. I am sure the seniors have the days counted down as well as the hours. But for us older folks, time is flying by.

Make sure you come out and support our graduates and high school students at all of their end-of-the-year activities. We sure have a lot of talented young people in our little school. Just a reminder that the baccalaureate service is Sunday evening, May 23, at 6 p.m. in the Easton High School gymnasium. I am so proud to see that we still have a baccalaureate service.
Wednesday, June 2, will be Class Night at 7 p.m.. in the Easton High School gym. The final event will be the graduation commencement exercises to be held at the Easton High School gymnasium at 7 p.m. on June 4.
Their class motto for 2010 is: “Turn your face to the sun and the shadows fall behind you.”

Senior Play

The Senior Play at the Easton High School was a huge success this year. The performers did a great job. We are very proud of all of you. Also, Jason and Emily did a great job as directors. The title of this year’s play was “Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark.”

Sympathy

Our sympathy goes out to the family of Dan King. Dan certainly will be missed by everyone. Dan lived in Easton most of his life and owned a dairy farm. For his family, please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers at this very difficult time.

Kiwanis news

The Easton Kiwanis Club met on April 20, at the Odd Fellows Hall, with 11 members and four guests present.
After a spaghetti supper with Mike’s special sauce, the meeting was opened by President Mike Allen. He greeted Diane Greene, Cindy Flanagan, Keith Madore and Claire Exner, from the Presque Isle Kiwanis’ Club.
The club was not able to get a team together for the MS Walk on May 1, so it was voted to donate to the project.
Diane Greene reported that the Home and Garden Show went off well and they got good feedback. The Presque Isle Kiwanis sponsor this show.
Loris Allen had a very Happy Dollar to give. She won the 100 gallons of fuel oil from Dead River at the Home and Garden Show.
Mike told the group that they were invited to the Future Farmers of America banquet being held at the Easton Elementary School cafeteria on Tuesday, May 11, beginning at 6 p.m. They would like to know how many plan to attend by the next Kiwanis meeting on May 4.
Guest speaker for the evening was Carrie Hull, manager of the Easton Katahdin Trust Bank. She spoke to the group on all the scams that are going on across the country now. She gave them a head’s up on some that one wouldn’t believe and warned them to never give out personal information over the phone or through the mail before first checking to find out if it was really who they said they were. Scammers are so smooth now that it is easy to be fooled of you aren’t alert.
Carrie said that banks would not ever call anyone for their personal information and that most businesses wouldn’t do that either. Two of the guests, Diane Greene and Cindy Flanagan, both work in banks in Presque Isle and they also agreed on the information that was given out.
Carrie fielded many questions the group asked her, answering to their satisfaction. She also handed out informational papers and beautiful pens to those present. Those from Easton were: Vaughn Martin, Bernard Hussey, Keith and Esther Richardson, Ann and Tom Osgood, Lt. Governor, Barbara Blackstone, Mike and Loris Allen and Clair and Eldora Carter.
