Rotary remains undefeated

    Houlton Rotary’s prolific offense overpowered Walmart in the Little League Minors Division championship, 18-1, last Monday on the newly revealed Rotary Field, adjacent to the Houlton Elementary and Southside schools.
    The Rotary Club went 12-0 on the season and 4-0 in the playoffs.
    Before the game, outgoing Rotary President John Tribou addressed the players and spectators before throwing out the ceremonial first pitch.
    In the first inning, Rotary knocked in five runs, as Sam Lilley singled; Zach Cowperthwaite blasted a two-run homer, while Parker Shaw and Aaron Holmes each had base hits, with Shaw driving in one run and Holmes bringing in two runs.

    In the second, it was a twofold delight, adding four more Rotary runs, as Nick DeLucca, Cowperthwaite and Nick Perfitt all banged out doubles. Cowperthwaite and Perfitt knocked in a run each, while Garrett Perkins singled to drive in a run, as well.
    Leading 9-0 in the fourth, Lilley hit a three-run homer, while DeLucca singled and Cowperthwaite stroked a two-run home run.
    To finish the game, Holmes singled; Isaac Potter drew a walk, with Lilley doubling and Perfitt adding a single to add four more runs onto the scoreboard.

    The only run for Walmart came when Tyler Bailey reached on a single and came home on Bryson Bulley’s base hit.
    Rotary’s Cowperthwaite was the winning pitcher, striking out seven batters, while Perfitt worked three innings of relief, striking out four.
