A problem that has resulted in a number of suicides across the nation in the past couple of years will be the focus of discussion at sessions being planned in Fort Kent, Presque Isle and Houlton. Three upcoming workshops scheduled throughout Aroostook County will offer participants insight into the issue of bullying — both in-person and cyber-bullying — and its widespread impact, as well as strategies for prevention.
“Participants will develop a better understanding of bullying and cyber-bullying. We’ll discuss how such behavior impacts students and families,” said Catherine Jandreau, Maine Parent Federation, for northern and central Aroostook.
Jandreau said those taking part in the workshops will work on identifying strategies and approaches to begin to eliminate/diffuse bullying and cyber-bullying in schools and communities.
The sessions are sponsored by: Maine Parent Federation, Maine Support Network/Syntiro, University of Maine at Fort Kent Student Affairs and the University of Maine at Presque Isle.
Workshops are scheduled in Fort Kent, Presque Isle and Houlton.
“In Fort Kent, it will be held on Monday, Nov. 29, at UMFK’s Nadeau Hall from 6-8 p.m. On Tuesday, Nov. 30, the Presque Isle CareerCenter will host the workshop as a Brown Bag Lunch and Learn event, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with an evening session scheduled from 6-8 p.m. And on Wednesday, Dec. 1, the Houlton Outreach Center will host a Brown Bag Lunch and Learn from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.,” said Jandreau.
