PRESQUE ISLE — The University of Maine at Presque Isle has hired James Casciano as its men’s basketball coach and assistant athletic director and Marc Heidorf as the women’s basketball coach and sports information director.
Casciano comes to UMPI most recently from Union County College in Cranford, N.J.
His experience is extensive, having coached for over 20 years at various levels of intercollegiate competition – community college to NCAA Division I institutions. According to UMPI officials, Casciano’s strengths lie in his reputation and success in building total programs.
In addition to his coaching experience, he brings athletic administration experience, including game and facility management, travel logistics, marketing/fundraising, supervision, budgeting and game management.
Heidorf will arrive from Sherwood, Wis., and has worked his way to the head coaching ranks from that of a student assistant.
He has women’s basketball coaching experience at the University of Wisconsin – Oshkosh and La Crosse, Alverno College and Lawrence University.
Heidorf has a master’s degree in sport administration and a bachelor’s degree in radio-TV-film.
He brings with him a strong repertoire of sports information experience, having supervised a support staff of 10 in the arena of sports information.
