SMYRNA – Vaughn “Casey” White, 61, died Feb. 9, 2012, at his home. He was born April 26, 1950, in Island Falls, the son of Vaughn and Naomi (Mitchell) White.
Vaughn graduated from Katahdin High School, class of 1969, and attended Northern Conservatory of Music. He worked at Quincy Shipyard as a welder, and Brockton City Hospital and Waterville Osteopathic Hospital as an orderly. He graduated from the University of Maine, Augusta School of Nursing, in 1973. Vaughn worked at Thayer Hospital in the psychiatric unit and emergency room. He graduated in 1977 from University of Maine, Portland, as a nurse practitioner. He worked at Danforth Health Center, National Health Services. Vaughn was a Navy reservist hospital corpsman second class. He became co-owner of Whitey’s Market in 1981. He graduated from Newton/Watertown New England School of Acupuncture. He set up a practice, Pine Needle Clinic, Smryna. He started Company Doc occupational medicine and worked at Katahdin Valley Health Center, practicing in Houlton and Island Falls. Vaughn set up Tatonka Spirit Ranch, was a member of the American Bison Association and Island Falls Lions Club, was past president of American Association of Acupuncturist and Oriental Medicine, the Vets motorcycle club, Pine Tree Motorcycle Club, Island Falls Lodge No. 206 AF & AM, Scottish Rite and Anah Shriners, where he was a past member of the Highlanders.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Linda (Friel) White of Smyrna; two daughters, Jessica Roche and her husband, Mark, of Billerica, Mass., and Huhnna White of Spring Hill, Kan.; father-in-law, Vinal Friel; two sisters, Charlotte and Thomas Melnichok of Oakland and Jane and Chris Baxley of Florida; niece, Molly Webster; nephews, Thomas Christopher Melnichok, James and his wife, Erica Melnichok, and Mitchell Webster; and special friends, Lisa, Lenny and Jonathan Keyes, Greg and Danica Stiles, Diana Rockwell, Diane Shaw, Jennifer Stevens, Nicki Larrabee and Durwood Humphry.
Friends called 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, at the family home, 3154 Route 2, Smyrna, where Masonic services were conducted 7 p.m. by Island Falls Lodge No. 206 AF & AM. Funeral services were held 1 p.m. Sunday at Old Methodist Church, Smyrna. Interment will be at Smyrna Mills Cemetery. A time of fellowship will be held at Smoki-Haulers Snowmobile Club immediately after the graveside service.
