High scoring games highlight softball results

    Scoreboards got a work out in Aroostook County the past week as several softball teams hit double digits in runs and some like Fort Fairfield and Ashland score in the 20s.

    Here’s a recap of games played through Monday:

    Fort Fairfield 25, Hodgdon 21 — At Hodgdon Monday, the Tigers scored four times in the top of the eighth, then held the Hawks scoreless in the bottom of the inning to preserve the win.

    Abby Player led Fort Fairfield (3-2) with a triple and two singles, and winning pitcher Jordann Coiley added three singles.

    Alicia Rockwell posted four singles for Hodgdon, and Maya Gardiner and Rachel Harmon contributed a double and two singles each.

    LCS/MSSM 6, East Grand 4 — The Limestone Community School/Maine School of Science and Mathematics handed East Grand their first loss of the season Monday in Danforth.

    At Danforth, Stephanie Leighton drove in the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth inning to lead the Eagles.

    Limestone improves to 5-1, while East Grand slips to 4-1.

    Presque Isle 21, Houlton 6 — At Houlton Monday, Liza Buck had a big day at the plate for the Wildcats with three singles, one double, seven RBIs and two runs scored in the win.

    Courtney Colligan added a single, double, and three runs scored for the winners while Jordie Levesque had three singles and three runs.

    Makala Folsom and Megan Hannigan each singled twice for Houlton.

    Ashland 23, Wisdom 22 — At Ashland Monday, Brooke LaBelle drove in four runs with two doubles and single to power the Hornets by the Pioneers of St. Agatha.

    Marissa Chasse chipped in with a triple, double, single and three RBIs for the 3-3 winners and Anna Paradis also drove in three runs with a double and two singles. Kayla Cote added a triple, single and two RBIs.

    LCS/MSSM 19, Fort Kent 1 — At Limestone Friday, the Eagles’ Amanda Allen dominated Fort Kent in a five-inning one-hitter.

    Daniele Pelkey recorded two singles and an RBI, and Allen added a double and an RBI. Allen struck out six in gaining the win.

    Fort Fairfield 16, Wisdom 2 — At Fort Fairfield Thursday, Coiley struck out seven to help the Tigers beat the Pioneers.

    Player and Emily Blasidell led Fort Fairfield with two singles each.

    East Grand 7, Central Aroostook 5 — The Central Aroostook Panthers lost a close game to East Grand in Danforth Thursday.

    Allie McEwen hit two singles and knocked in a run to lead the Vikings to their fourth win without a loss.

    Losing pitcher Vicki McIntyre smacked a two-run double for Central Aroostook of Mars Hill.

    Ashland 17, Madawaska 3 — At Madawaska Thursday, Kayla Cote collected three singles and two RBIs as the Hornets rode a nine-run first inning to victory.

    Paradis hit a double and two singles with an RBI, while Rachel Gillis and Shea Craig each provided two singles for the Hornets (2-3).

    Presque Isle 31, Fort Kent 5 — At Presque Isle Wednesday, Colligan had three hits, two singles and a double to lead the Wildcats to a 31-5 win over Fort Kent. Colligan also drove in four runs and scored five.

    Laurin Ackerson ran into some control issues in the third inning but managed to settle down and she threw a no-hitter.

    LCS/MSSM 25, CAHS 13 — At Mars Hill May 1, Melissa Cantafio earned the pitching win for Limestone Community School/Maine School of Science and Mathematic and helped her own cause with a single, a double and four RBIs.

    Leighton singled three times and Danele Pelkey had a single and four RBIs for the Eagles (3-1).

    Vicki McIntyre and Paige Garrison each rapped three singles for 3-1 Central Aroostook.

    Caribou 12, Houlton 0 — The Caribou High School softball team picked up another win on May 1 with a home victory over Houlton.

    Emily Staples recorded her fifth win in six starts, giving up only one hit and striking out nine.

    Third basemen Jordyn Doucette led the offense, going 3-for-4 with a single, double and triple. Kristin Plante and Jamie Martin each had three hits and two RBIs.

    Ashley Drew collected the only hit for Houlton with a single in the fourth inning.

    Madawaska 15, Fort Fairfield 3 — At Madawaska May 1, Nicole Cyr hit two doubles and drove in three runs to help the Owls beat the Tigers.

    Emily Blaisdell and Rebekah Pelkey each singled twice for the 1-2 Tigers. Sydney Churchill added a double.

    Ashland 13, SAHS 12 — At Ashland May 1, Gillis’ two-run double capped a seven-run rally in the bottom of the seventh as the Hornets rallied to edge the Warriors.

    Labelle posted a double and two singles for Ashland (1-3), Chasse added a double and a single and Gillis also had a single.
