Elementary school to host book fair

EASTON NEWS

by Debbie Smith

The Easton Elementary School is hosting a Scholastic Book Fair the week of March 11-15, with specific times posted on the Easton School Department website. Families, faculty and the community are invited to attend this fun reading event that helps inspire children to become lifelong readers.

The Book Fair will feature special Family Math Night with dinner and door prizes on Thursday, March 14, from 5-7 p.m. Each family will take home a free math kit. The event will also be available during the evening for families to purchase books.
The Book Fair offers specially priced books and educational products, including popular series, award-winning titles, new releases, adult bestsellers and other great reads from more than 100 publishers.
Book Fair customers may help the school build classroom libraries by purchasing books through the Classroom Wish List program. In addition, the event will feature the One for Books program, where kids can share the thrill of reading by donating loose change to purchase books from the Book Fair to the school library. Scholastic matches monetary donations with a donation of up to one million books, which go to national non-profit organizations dedicated to helping families in need, such as the Marine Corps’ Toys for Tots Foundation, Kids in Distressed Situations, Inc. and kids in Need Foundation.

Spring Stew Night

The Little School Restoration Committee would like to invite you to a “Welcome Spring Stew Night.” This will be held on Saturday, March 23, from 4:30-7 p.m. at the Odd Fellow’s Hall in Easton. This will include a variety of stews and an ice cream bar. The cost will be by donation. All of the money raised will go towards restoring the old school on Station Road. Hope to see you all there.

Easter egg hunt

The Easter egg hunt and community breakfast will be held Saturday, March 23, at  9:30 a.m. It’s become an annual tradition to usher in spring with a community breakfast followed by an Easter egg hunt for children in 6th grade and under. Breakfast will be served at 9:30 in the elementary school cafeteria with the egg hunt to follow (inside for younger children and outside for the older ones). There are 2,000 eggs ready to go; bring a basket or bag to collect your goodies. Two Easter baskets will be raffled. The breakfast — consisting of French toast sticks, hash browns, bacon, juice and coffee — is open to the entire community; a donation will be taken to help cover the cost of food and supplies. We will have some special guests!  New this year we will be collaborating with the “Get Into Spring Craft Fair.” FMI, call the Recreation Department at 488-6601 or e-mail recreation@easton.me.com.

Class includes fun songs, toys to make water fun and  a great introduction to aquatic safety and more. The cost is $30 and must be paid to the Easton Town Office (not the pool) before the first lesson. Class will run from March 19 through May 21.
