WASHBURN NEWS

Dental Health Month is observed in March. Each year students from all over Maine participate in a state-wide dental health poster contest.
The theme for this year’s poster was “Join the Super Smile Team.” Several children won first place for the Washburn school system; these posters were sent to ACAP in Presque Isle to join other first-place posters from Aroostook County schools.
Trinity Bartlett, a fourth grade student at Washburn Elementary School, won first place in her grade level for Aroostook County. For this she won a T-shirt, along with a small prize basket of goodies. Her poster was sent to be hung in Augusta at the state oral dental health offices.
Trinity was informed earlier this week that she has won first place for the state of Maine in the grade 3-4 level. She received a larger prize basket along with a certificate. Trinity is only the second student in the Washburn school system to win first place at the state level in the statewide Dental Health Poster Contest.
Spring Concert
The Washburn District School held their annual Spring Concert on Thursday, May 9. The evening consisted of several choral and band pieces performed by the students participating in those programs in grades 5-12.
There was also a special performance by Senior Drew White. After seeing a YouTube Video of Kent Jenkins performing on a percussion set made of PVC pipes, Drew decided to give it a try. With the help of the school shop teacher, Mr. Hanson, Drew created the rather large instrument along with a medley arrangement which he performed to a very enthusiastic audience who gave him a standing ovation.
Destination Imagination
The Washburn Destination Imagination team is very grateful for a generous donation they received from the MakePeace Healing Arts Foundation for their Global Tournament May 21-24. The MakePeace Foundation is a foundation in memory of a past WDHS student.
