Crockett resigns from RSU 29 board

HOULTON, Maine — The RSU 29 school board is short one member following the resignation of Houlton representative Jeremiah Crockett.

Crockett submitted his resignation to Superintendent Mike Hammer on Monday, citing the fact that he no longer resided in Houlton. Crockett relocated to neighboring Linneus in the fall.
“I have enjoyed my time on the board as it provided me with the opportunity to work on some of the more difficult issues facing our communities,” Crockett stated in his letter. “Education and the associated costs that continue to challenge us are some of the most important issues our small communities face.”
Crockett was elected to a three-year term in November 2013.
The Houlton Town Council will be responsible for selecting a replacement representative to fill Crockett’s seat until the next election, which would be in November. The position is advertised in today’s edition of The Houlton Pioneer Times and individuals are asked to submit their letter of interest to Houlton Town Clerk Cathy O’Leary by Jan. 26. Letters can be mailed to 21 Water St. or emailed to town.clerk@houlton-maine.com.
At least one former board member, Rosa McNally, has already expressed an interest in filling the position. McNally ran for re-election last November, but was narrowly edged out for her seat. She garnered 1,042 votes in that election.
