Relay kicks off next week

The American Cancer Society Relay for Life of Aroostook will be hosting their annual kickoff event to “Reunite for the Fight” on Wednesday, Jan. 28, from 6 – 7:30 p.m., in the Multipurpose Room located in the Campus Center at the University of Maine at Presque Isle.     Relay for Life mobilizes communities throughout the country to celebrate people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost and provide participants with an opportunity to fight back against cancer.

Come join volunteers and other Relay participants to gather information and have questions answered about Relay for Life. This event will provide the opportunity to experience Relay, as a “Mini-Relay” event will take place, complete with a Survivor/Caregiver Lap, Luminaria Ceremony, and a Fight Back Ceremony. Volunteers will be set up at different stations to answer specific questions and also to provide the opportunity to browse through information on topics including American Cancer Society services and programs, registration, online information, fund-raising and team captain information, just to name a few.
This event is open to anyone who is interested in Relay, including returning participants or those curious in getting more information to develop a new team. In the past, this event has only been offered for team captains, but this year, organizers emphasize it will be opened up to everyone. They encourage participants to “bring a friend or two, enjoy light refreshments and be entered into a drawing for the chance to win a prize.”
